Damn! This place is GOOD!!! No need to go to Miami when this is down the road! Further proof that East Maryville really does have the BEST of the BEST!
(5)Scott D.
The best Cuban & red/black beans and rice I've ever had. Highly recommend this place!!
(5)Shannon S.
Excellent food. Cuban sandwich is a must try. Owners are super nice. Staff are very friendly. If you don't try this place, you are missing out.
(5)Jordan G.
Simply fantastic Cuban sandwich, which totally lived up to the Yelp hype. The seating area has a very home like feel to it, and really added a lot to the experience. One thing to note; If you're going to get it as takeout DO NOT take their Cuban sandwich home wrapped in tin foil. This makes the bread very soggy, and it doesn't taste half as good as taking it home in a simple foam take home box (or even better yet, eating it in the restaurant).
(5)Jen H.
Got the Cuban with red beans and rice. OMG its so good! The beans and rice were amazing!!
(5)Laura Y.
Get the Cuban in medium with the plantains. I was in town for a dockdog event and stopped here for lunch as soon as I walk in I was greeted buy a younger girl I was looking over the menu, she could tell I have never been here before she pointed me in the right directions and said try the Cuban so that's what I did. The Cuban is a great sandwich ask for a side on the mojo sauce. This is a nice little whole in the wall. If you are from out of town and don't know the area the pictures from the outside might look like it's in a bad area but it's not.
(5)Michael M.
While being somewhat acquainted with hispanic culture and food in general, I'll admit: I know nothing of Cuban cuisine. The girl and I stopped by the other night and were surprised this place lived up to the hype. The cuban sandwich was phenomenal (especially with the "mojo" sauce), and the sweet plantains are definitely worth a try if you're there. Favorite moment: hearing my girlfriend in mid-chew "Damn this is good!"
(5)Leah O.
A great local find!! The Cuban food is delicious. When you walk in the door you are created by a couple of the family member which own the restaurant. My favorite is the black beans and rice. They have a little spice but an overall good flavor and even better with the mojo sauce. The beef empanadas are good but I have gotten a couple which you could tell were sitting in the warmer to long. My husband always orders the Cuban sandwich and fried plantains. He loves Amora Cafe.
(4)Melanie M.
I came here after seeing all the yelp reviews. Yeah the cuban didn't disappoint. I'm not the best judge when it comes to an authentic cuban, but whatever I had was really tasty. The beans and rice were better than anything you'll find in east TN, not saying much but they were pretty good. The lady helping out front was super nice and very laid back. The whole place in a bit of a hole in the wall. Parking lot smells of trash but don't let that stop you from going inside. Tried one of their special sodas and found it to be too sweet.
(4)Mechele H.
Although the menu is limited, the food they have is amazing! The Cuban and black beans are to die for and are full of flavor! Don't let the outside appearance fool you, because this place is a must eat joint.
(5)Josh C.
I actually can't believe it has taken me this long to review this place! I've been coming here for years and maybe just wanted to be selfish to keep it all for mself! As many people have already said the cuban sandwich is so good that you are seriously doing an injustice to yourself by not eating it right now. Everything I've had here has been amazing and always consistent. If you can get the flan I would highly recommend it. You usually have to be there early for it because it sells so fast.
(5)Pierre M.
I don't often say this but the food was off the charts. Anyone who has ever seen the John Favreau Movie Chef, knows how we were drooling when he was making this Cubanos. As a foodie and one who loves to cook, I was imagining the favors in my head. Today, that thought became reality. My wife and I shared a Cubano with Papa Rellenos and Tostones. I had died and gone to Havana heaven! The Cubano flavor were perfectly balanced with nothing over bearing. The Tostones were perfect and not oily. And the Papa Rellenos (stuffed mashed potato balls) were out of this world. Everything was in perfect harmony with no particular spice overpowering another. Great service too. The young ladies tending the shop were just awesome, you gotta eat here.

Never had Cuban food before and we were passing through Maryville and thought we would give it a shot. The pineapple soda was unique and flavorful drink, apparently a Cuban favorite. Get the sandwich with the beans and rice. Blew us all away! Large and filling. The hot plate was also good however rather bland. Go with the sandwich! Don't be deterred by the outward appearance or the part of town. Worth the drive!
(4)Channa P.
Yes Cuban sandwiches. Aroma cafe is small spot that definitely feels authentic. The first time I went to Aroma, I couldn't believe the size and amount of food. The medium sandwich is what I suggest if you plan to get a side. That size is still pretty large and packed with chop pork on top of ham with pickles. The red beans and rice are insanely flavorful and the perfect side for first-time visitors. The "tostones" are plantains that are smashed and then fried, and perfect if you want something heavier. They also are fun to dip in the beans. I don't live in Maryville, so the drive is a bit too far for frequent visits. That said, I can't think of eating Cuban anywhere else in the area.
(4)Mike M.
It isn't just a restaurant; it's an extension of your Cuban friend's kitchen where mamá cooks with love and generations of tradition. The food is classic Cuban fare. We were here for dinner so we ordered beef picadillo and a pulled pork platters. Both were served with rice and beans (choice of red or black, we tried both). The picadillo was deep in layers of flavor and olive brine, the pork was classic and the rice and beans were tender and comforting. Dessert was guava + cheese empanadas sprinkled with sugar. It isn't fancy and there are only 10 tables. You order at the counter, the food is delivered to you and you bring your baskets and trays to the trash container. Our total bill was about $18. If you're a fan of Cuban food, visitar y deleitarse aquà (visit and feast here)!
(4)Michael Y.
Passed by this evening as they were closing. They were able to accommodate this late diner. A bit difficult to find, use your GPS. Very good rice, black beans and roast pork.
(4)Jessica C.
Wow!!! Who knew that you could find authentic Cuban sandwiches and bomb.com beans and rice in Marysville, TN right by Knoxville airport!?!? The family moved from Miami and makes a mean Cuban. I'm not even a beans and rice lover and their side hit it out of the park for me. Kudos for bringing such delicious recipes from Miami to a small town in Tennessee!!!
(5)Russell G.
Went there on a recommendation from the owners of an antique shop down the road a ways. The parking lot looks rough, its in an older part of the town, but the food was up there with the best of Knox/Maryville area. This is going on my list of "places to take out-of-towners to". Seriously impressive cooking, generous portions, and friendly staff!
(5)Lizzy V.
In town for a family wedding from Los Angeles, CA and my cousin recommended this place. This place was SO yummy! I am not a food snob or claim to be a foodie but I do believe my palate has become attuned to whats good and whats not because we have SO MANY amazing choices in Los Angeles... this was such an awesome find!! The red beans and rice... IF I COULD have that shipped to me overnight, I would in a heart beat!! Enjoy!!!
(5)Seth K.
We go here on our way to the smokey mountains. Really nice people and the food is delish. Our kids love it too. I'm not Cuban but it seems to be really authentic.
(5)Penelope A.
I am half Cuban, born and raised in Miami then spent 10 years in Nashville. Aromacafe is hands down the best Cuban food I have ever had. The papa rellena was perfectly seasoned and tasty. The steak sandwich came with a garlic mojo sauce that is to die for. I had to drive 30 minutes to get out here, but I will do it again. Besos!
(5)Aaron C.
Phenomenal food and friendly service. Love eating here! Make sure you get the black beans and rice and be double sure to get extra mojo sauce!
(4)Seth O.
We decided to get lunch there based on the yelp reviews and the fact that it would be something different to try. The owner was SUPER helpful and friendly as soon as we walked in. The food was delicious and very filling. We tried the Cuban with beans and rice. I had the Cuban soda which was a nice break from the norm. We also got an order of maduros for dessert. The whole experience was excellent! Next time we decide to try something different, we may just go back for something we already know is great! Either way, we will DEFINITELY be going back. Thanks for the great food!
(5)Trevis G.
Great local lunch spot. Very friendly service. I love the grilled Cuban style sandwiches.
(4)Tori G.
Small, cozy place. I had never tried Cuban food before and this place was wonderful. Very friendly staff. I would recommend this place to try.
(5)Mary T.
Hands down the BEST CUBAN SANDWICH, in this town and surrounding! After a year of wanting to go, I finally made it. I was extremely pleased. The vinegar dipping sauce was awesome extra they serve complimentary. Delicious! Check it out! Cheers & Enjoy!
(5)Micah B.
Freakishly good cubans. We went here based on the recommendation of the Shawn Banks of the Local Butcher in Maryville and were not disappointed. Great sweet plantains and papa rellenos. Staff was very friendly. Hope to find more places lick this in Maryville.
(5)Maria B.
Everything here is delicious. That's all you need to know. Do yourself a favor and eat here.
(5)Daniel M.
Another favorite! Sandwiches are great! The prices are more than resonable. They are very friendly too! Its a hidden gem.
(5)StR I.
It's a great little pearl relatively close to the airport (TYS). Cuban sandwich, cuban coffee, plantains - all are good (and inexpensive). Keep in mind that the sandwiches are very big. Even the medium size is plenty for lunch. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try their empanadas. The owner is very personable and friendly. I enjoyed this place greatly. Highly recommend! I wish this place was close to where I live.
(5)R P.
I had the small Cuban sandwich combo for lunch and it was plentiful and delicious. My gf got the plate combo, loved the few bites she ate, And now I have a wonderful pork plate leftovers for dinner. So overall the food is great. I'm not a big fan of ordering at the front counter and having to pay at the counter. I like sitting down and thinking about what I want as I enjoy my drink. If I wanted another drink I would have to go up order another and pay for it. Now sitting here we don't know if we leave dishes on table or clear it ourselves. Overall we highly recommend food. Ps Cuban coffee rocks.
(4)Jessica G.
A little bit of heaven on earth. Great food and awesome service!
(5)Tanya F.
This place gets 5 stars for the food and customer service. I got there as it was closing and he let me in and cooked my food before cleaning the kitchen. I got the picadillo and black beans and rice and tostones. The picadillo was very classic and delicious. This is somewhere i will definitely come back to and bring friends next time. To top it off they give military discounts!
(5)Marilee F.
Do not miss the excellent food and service! Authentic Simple Cuban food reasonably priced. We mixed several options including the Cuban sandwich, beef empanadas and guava empanadas. Ended up leaving with a take out order for later. Service is excellent and will answer any questions. Even got me ketsup , I still need to add my American touch.
(5)Teresa R.
Best Cuban Sandwich hands down. Wonderful mojo sauce for dipping. The black beans and rice are fantastic. Try the ham and cheese croquettes. The original location is small but worth it. I've not tried the new location. Family owned. Nice folks.
(5)Sharon B.
Absolutely the BEST Cuban food anywhere! Even on a recent trip to Miami and Key West, I couldn't find food as good as this! :) I get the small Cuban sandwich combo and its more than enough. The black beans and rice are delicious, but make sure to also try the mojo sauce. :)
(5)Joanna H.
One of my favorite Maryville spots! The Cuban is classic, but I love the pork platter with black beans and rice. And for a good mid afternoon caffeine boost, their Cuban coffee with a plate of sweet plantains is a treat. Come a little before the lunch rush if you don't want to wait too long in line. And if you come too late in the day, they occasionally run out of food. It's a great quirky locally owned spot with delicious food though!
(4)Lexan K.
Some of the best food I have had in a long time. We got a variety of nibbles so we could get a good feel for the menu. Am I glad we did! Cuban sandwich, ham croquettas, tostones, black beans and rice, guava and cream cheese filled empanadas and flan. Each was as amazing as the other. I can't wait to try the other half of the menu! Why isn't this place packed every moment that it is open??
(5)Becky R.
Authentic Cuban sandwiches, red beans and rice (or black beans and rice), and Ironbeer soda, oh my! I'm told this is what 95% of customers order so of course we first-timers did so as well. Result: awesome Cuban food! My husband and I each got a "medium" order and this proved to be too much food. Next time we'll split a medium order, and maybe get some tostones or dessert empanadas for later.
(5)Steve H.
Not impressed. I have passed by it many times, so when my wife and I were in the neighborhood the other night, we thought we'd give it a try. We went in at about 6:45 and were told they would sell take-out only. They close at 7:30. In a competitive restaurant market such as the Knoxville area, this is a major customer disservice. The girl who waited on us was pleasant enough, and she was probably just following the orders of, I would guess, a boss who wasn't focused on the customer first. No problem. We got our orders and ate out on the patio. Fortunately there were plenty of seats and the weather was pleasant. But the waitperson could have offered that as an option rather just say flat-out: "Take out only. You can't eat in here. We close at 7:30" and obviously don't want customers in the way of cleaning. The food: We got black beans and rice with pork, and another with ground beef. Filling and tasty, but nothing exceptional. We also got two ground beef empanades, which were good. The sweet tea, however, was awful and was likely old. It was in one of those giant stainless steel fresh-brewed tea urns, so I was expecting better. The total bill was $24 and, with tip, I felt that was overpriced. We could've had a decent Mexican meal for not much more. I would come back and try the Cuban sandwiches and plantains, and more empanades, but I think I will order to go, even if I have a choice.

While looking for a new place to eat we saw this show up on Yelp with great reviews and decided to try it out and were not disappointed. We went with the Cuban sandwich combo with black beans and rice and both were quite delicious. Definitely will be going back here on a regular basis.
(5)Terry M.
The sandwich, beans and rice is crazy good. You'll be craving it the week after your visit. The small is all I can eat.
(5)Amanda C.
One of my FAVORITE places to eat. I eat Cuban as often as possible when visiting my hubby's hometown in Florida, so I asked Google for a Cuban restaurant in my area to get my fix and stumbled upon Aroma Cafe. Perks: The BEST black beans and rice I've ever had, amazing homemade mojo, the sandwiches are crispy and melt-in-your-mouth at the same time (defying physics!), empanadas rock my world, and the family members that own/run this place are all a pleasure to visit. Pitfall: The location. I liked it when they were in West Maryville and more convenient. East is a bit crowded on my way through town (rush hour), so I don't make the stop very often. I bet if they had a more centrally located location their business would increase ten-fold!
(5)kir h.
this place is delicious! when i went, we tried a cuban sandwich and some other pork sandwich with potato sticks on it. the flavor of the cuban was absolutely amazing and was so rich. the portions are very good, so if you don't have a big appetite like me, the small will definitely be enough; though you'll probably want the medium it's so good! aroma may not be the fanciest, but the food is top notch.
(5)Marie B.
Goodness! so good it should be illegal to make such addicting food! Heads up there is a second location 2706 Mayflower Drive Maryville, Tn 37801 411 South & William Blount Drive It is better then the one on east Broadway in all ways. They both are good but whoever is making the food at the 411 location has is down! The atmosphere is divey and colorful. Had my first Cuban sandwich here and It's a first worth writing about. The picadillo! it almost made me cry so Delicious the flavor can make you dream about it. Beans and Rice awesome juicy yummy. note** the east Broadway location is great too but they need to watch the food temperature better.
(5)Ryan S.
Cuban sandwich combo is the way to go, so good.
(5)Ken B.
Mmmmm good. I learned about Cuban food when I was stationed in Key West. This is the real deal.
(5)Carlos V.
Limited menu, OK food not a 5 star place by a long shot. Stick to the pork sandwich and you'll be fine.
(3)T T.
Best Cuban sandwich I have ever had, even in Florida, be warned though, i ordered the mini and it was huge! Excellent Pulled pork, spectacular beans. Empanadas are good but not great. Very, very friendly staff.
(5)Jon C.
For a city that's not blessed with a lot of latin american cuisine, it was a breath of fresh air to find a place that makes a Cuban sandwich as good as Aroma Cafe. As Tim M. pointed out, there's not a whole lot that you're gonna find outside of the sandwich, beans, rice, dulce de leche, and empanadas. But if you're hankering to have a Cuban sandwich that will make you dream that you're in Havana (or at least Calle Ocho), then you have to come here. If you want more evidence of authenticity, the wife who runs the place lived in Little Havana for some time as well as NYC, so she knows how it's supposed to taste (and it shows). I will point out that they don't stay open until 8 all the time in the winter. They can close as early as 6, pending on how hot or cold business is that day.
(5)Tim M.
A little taste of Calle Ocho in Maryville... I make the trip to South Florida a few times a year - mostly to see family, but also for the food. I'm a big fan of Spanish and Cuban cuisine. The problem is, when you think about Alcoa, you're not likely to think of Cuban pork. Aroma Cafe will make a believer out of you. If you've ever driven past this place on your way to the airport and thought, "Mmm... fried plantains...." you definitely owe it to yourself to give it a shot. As previously mentioned by John J., the menu is a bit limited; however, what they have is all very well done. If you get the "mini" Cuban sandwich combination meal thing, you'll leave with a second lunch's worth of food. The bread for the Cuban is perfect and if you get a side of maduros, they are very well prepared. Cafe con leche is as sweet as it should be. If you don't currently have dental insurance, pick some up before you order this classic Cuban beverage. The real moment of truth comes when you have to decide between the red or black beans. Gun to my head, i'd have to go with black, but not by a lot. I think the fresh cilantro puts it over the top. If you're with someone else, or just like really like beans, get both. I'd skip the croquetas. They're not terrible, just not worth getting. Too many other great things on the menu. On the whole - this place is solid. I wish we lived closer so we could make it a more regular stop on our restaurant circuit. I'll definitely be going back. Maybe you'll see me there - I'll be the gringo with the two helpings of black beans and extra cilantro.
(5)Charlie B.
As others have noted, the biggest surprise is finding this oasis of Cuban food in the Eagleton Village. The menu is a small but authentic collection of Cuban cuisine, ranging from a correctly prepared Miami Cuban sandwich to the fried plantains and black beans and rice. Having spent years in Miami on business working in the Cuban American community, I was more than pleasantly surprised to find this gem in east Maryville.
(4)Al J.
Heard about this little place from a friend and SO happy to know about it! An excellent Cuban sandwich, beans (red or black) w/ rice & a soft drink for $8. They also had roast pork that's at the top of my list for the next trip ... looked great. Limited menu & hours but WELL worth the effort. And they gave 10% discount for cash. As a plus ( or a warning if you're on a diet) the Ritchie Kreme Do-Nut shop is just across & down the street. Put this one on your list!
(5)john j.
Not a big menu here but the few things they have are great! The cuban sandwich is awesome which includes a very tasty marinated pork tenderloin inside. The black beans are the best I've ever had in my life. I go here once a week (sometimes more) because I am addicted to it...it's really starting to become a problem. I have had the papa rellena which is a deep fried mashed potato ball with beef in the center and more beef around it. It's not bad but I'll stick with the cuban and black beans....they also have red beans if you like that better. They also have a military discount if you are a member. After writing all this, and it being lunch time, I now have to go there and eat! Try it...you won't be dissapointed.
